Magnesium sulfate with sodium bicarbonate and citric acid
Presentation
Effervescent powder containing:
Sodium bicarbonate 22.6% w/w
Citric acid 19.5% w/w
Magnesium Sulfate 17.4% w/w
Drugs List
Dosage
Adults
Dyspepsia
One level spoonful (5ml) to be taken in water up to a maximum of four times a day
Constipation
Two level spoonfuls (10mls) to be taken in water before breakfast or at bedtime
Elderly
Children
Children over 3 years
Dyspepsia
2.5ml to be taken in water up to a maximum of four times a day.
Constipation
5ml to be taken in water before breakfast or at bedtime.
Children under 3 years
Not recommended for this age group.
Patients with Renal Impairment
Avoid or decrease dose in moderate renal impairment. Increased risk of toxicity.
Excessive use in patients with severe renal dysfunction may lead to hypermagnesaemia and hypercalcaemia.
Precautions and Warnings
Should be used with caution in patients with the following:
Renal impairment
Hepatic impairment
Cardiac impairment
Hypochlorhydria
Hypocalcaemia
Respiratory alkalosis
Metabolic alkalosis
Aldosteronism
Oedema
Hypertension
Eclampsia
Restricted sodium intake
Elderly or debilitated patients.
If daily use is required, investigate the cause of symptoms and advise the patient to consult a doctor if symptoms persist despite treatment
Avoid frequent use, frequent use in patients with severe renal dysfunction may lead to hypermagnesaemia and hypercalcaemia.
Preparation contains sucrose, prescribe with caution to patients with glucose-galactose malabsorption syndrome.

Gastro-intestinal discomfort
Diarrhoea
Belching
Flatulence
Overdosage
