Uses
Seasonal and perennial allergic rhino-conjunctivitis
Urticaria
Dosage
Adults
10mg once a day.
Children
Children aged 12 years and over
10mg once a day.
Contraindications
Children under 12 years
Bradycardia
Breastfeeding
Cardiac arrhythmias
Galactosaemia
History of cardiac arrhythmias
Hypokalaemia
Long QT syndrome
Pregnancy
Severe cardiac dysfunction
Severe hepatic impairment
Torsade de pointes
Precautions and Warnings
Elderly
Family history of long QT syndrome
Diabetes mellitus
Electrolyte imbalance
Glucose-galactose malabsorption syndrome
History of torsade de pointes
Lactose intolerance
Correct electrolyte disorders before treatment
Advise ability to drive/operate machinery may be affected by side effects
Contains castor oil - may cause adverse gastrointestinal effects
Contains lactose
Consider monitoring ECG in patients at risk of QT prolongation
Monitor serum electrolytes
Pregnancy and Lactation
Pregnancy
Mizolastine is contraindicated during pregnancy.
The manufacturer does not recommended the use of mizolastine during pregnancy, particularly during the first trimester.
Animal studies do not indicate harmful effects regarding the development of the embryo or foetus, the course of gestation and peri and post natal development.
Lactation
Mizolastine is contraindicated during breastfeeding.
The manufacturer does not recommended breastfeeding whilst taking mizolastine. Available data indicates mizolastine is expressed in human breast milk, but the quantity is unknown.
