Ear drops containing phenazone with lidocaine.

Therapeutic Indications
Uses
Acute otitis media
Treatment and relief of pain in the following diseases of the middle ear without tympanic perforation:
Acute, congestive otitis media;
Otitis in influenza;
Barotraumatic otitis.
Dosage
Adults
Instil 4 drops two or three times daily into the affected ear.
If symptoms do not improve 7 days or worsen rapidly or significantly, the therapy should be re-evaluated.
Children
Instil 4 drops two or three times daily into the affected ear.
If symptoms do not improve 7 days or worsen rapidly or significantly, the therapy should be re-evaluated.
Contraindications
Perforated tympanic membrane
Precautions and Warnings
Children under 3 months
G6PD deficiency
Haemoglobinopathies
Exclude tympanic membrane perforation before initiating treatment
Advise patient to report any ear pain, discharge or infection
May affect results of some laboratory tests
If symptoms worsen or persist for more than 7 days, consult a doctor
Cases of methemoglobinemia have been observed following the topical use of local anaesthetics. Caution should be used in patients who are susceptible to methemoglobinemia, including infants under 3 months of age and patients with haemoglobinopathies or glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency.
Pregnancy and Lactation
Pregnancy
Phenazone with lidocaine is considered safe for use during pregnancy.
The manufacturer advises phenazone with lidocaine may be used safely during pregnancy at the recommended dosage and therapy duration. It is unknown whether phenazone with lidocaine crosses the placenta.
Lactation
Phenazone with lidocaine is considered safe for use during breastfeeding.
The manufacturer states phenazone with lidocaine may be used safely when breastfeeding at the recommended dosage and therapy duration. It is unknown whether phenazone with lidocaine pass into the breast milk.
