  • Therapeutic Indications

    Uses

    Seasonal and perennial allergic conjunctivitis

    Dosage

    Adults

    Instil 1 or 2 drop(s) into each eye four times a day.

    Children

    Instil 1 or 2 drop(s) into each eye four times a day.

    Contraindications

    None known

    Precautions and Warnings

    Wearing of contact lenses
    Pregnancy

    Advise patient blurred vision may affect ability to drive/operate machinery
    Some formulations may contain traces of silver - risk of hypersensitivity
    Administer other ophthalmic products at least 15 minutes apart
    To reduce systemic absorption compress lacrimal sac during administration
    Advise patient to avoid touching the eye/other surfaces with container tip
    Remove contact lenses before use and re-insert 15 minutes after use

    Pregnancy and Lactation

    Pregnancy

    Use sodium cromoglicate eye drops preservative-free with caution during pregnancy.

    The manufacturer notes that experience with sodium cromoglicate suggests no adverse effects on foetal development.

    Lactation

    Sodium cromoglicate eye drops preservative-free are considered safe for use during breastfeeding.

    The manufacturer notes that is it unknown if sodium cromoglicate is excreted in human breast milk but, based on its physicochemical properties, it is unlikely. There is little data to suggest any undesirable effects on the breastfeeding infant.

    Blurred vision (transient)
    Burning sensation (local)
    Irritation (localised)
    Stinging (transient)
